From Conception to Completion
Our aim is to provide a complete service from the initial requirement, design brief and the early stages of planning and building control to insure a smooth transition through the early stages of the projects conception.
Once the necessary permits and permissions have been granted we can work with the client directly or alternatively under direction of your own architects and structural engineers to provide you with the steelwork and finished building that your design brief required.
If however you wish us to provide the design and structural calculations then that's all part of the service we provide, BIM software and dedicated structural analysis software are the backbone of the design tools we use to stream line the process to ensure the structures we build are fit for the purpose today and will continue to provide you with the service life you would expect.
Once our designs have been approved we can start the fabrication process in earnest ,steel work is cut and processed from stock lengths of UB and UC and fabricated by our Zurich approved coded welders to the workshop drawings using advanced synergic pulse Migs to our WPS.
After QC has inspected welds for defects finished components and member are prepared for after treatment prior to corrosion protection, be it conventional paint finishes or hot dip galvanising.
Groundworks from the initial site preparation and access to foundations and bolt placement are undertaken in house with our own qualified and dedicated site operatives.
Where possible we endeavour to use our own resources for all erection and building services, utilising modern equipment for access and material handling with all operators trained to IPAF standard 3b and 1b, in house net riggers for roof cladding operations.
Secondary building operations such as wall and block work construction along with stone facing for traditional and renovation works , supply and fitting of precast concrete products for wall and loaded floor applications along with structural cast applications for custom solutions we have all of these covered in house.
Floor slabs can be tailored to the customers requirements, a range of screeding techniques and subsequent surface finishes from conventional powered float treatments ,to brush and imprinting for more specialist applications.
For all full indication of what we can do for you, get in touch and we will be happy to talk about your design brief and endeavour to provide a solution for your needs.
Our Aims and Ethos
Initially conceived as a small steel fabrication in the early 1990s our direction and focus has changed over time, from general fabs and sheet metal work we are fundamentally a site based construction business.
We supply finished products over the northern and central counties and offer our erection services in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria.
Our ethos has always been to offer value for money products without compromise on quality.
Take a look at see the difference and make your own judgement.
See the Difference
Not all buildings are the same, they may look it however over time poor quality structures have a short life expectancy and will require considerably more maintenance.
One area that easy to spot and fast to fail is the roof cladding, traditionally there is no shortage of second rate or faulty fibre cement cladding, 15 year life expectancy is common with some materials.
Likewise the primary cladding choice should be matched to the requirements that the customer specifies, livestock buildings probably don't normally need an insulated upper structure, hence composite steel cladding isn't going to be the first choice.
We used either Eternit or Landini fibre cement; both products are guaranteed and have shown to be fit for purpose.
After the implementation of EN 1090 the structural elements should be harmonised, however the standard is broad and the difference between manufactures is great.
Steelwork needs to be primarily designed for the purpose that they are intended, building with imposed loads will be designed to execution class 2 and the location will have a large bearing on wind and snow loadings, universally we always work to the worst case scenario hence our buildings are fit for purpose anywhere in the country .
The columns of portal frame building have the highest load of any element in the structure and in particular the connection between this and the rafter, hence the haunches on the connection plates and the connections themselves are very important.
All our buildings are supplied with 15mm thick connection plates as standard although smaller spans will be on 12mm and likewise larger spans on 20/25mm plates.
Haunches a split from the same parent beam as the rafter all the columns have at least caps and stiffeners, whilst large columns will have sub stiffeners through both sides of this connection.
Eaves beams, lateral stanchion ties and wind bracing are one area that manufactures have trimmed back on, however when your building has 14" of snow sat on one side of the roof you'll be glad we haven't. The heaviest columns and rafters are worth little if not fully restrained from lateral movement and subsequent rigid plastic collapse to the apex because the wind bracing wasn't up to scratch.
All our buildings have 80mm SHS wind bracing as standard rising to 100mm SHS on larger spans, likewise eaves beams increase to 178mm by 102mm 19kg U beam.
Steelwork should be either shot blasted to Swedish standard SA 2.5 and primer painted or alternatively galvanised over clean black steel.
Purlins are a structural element that is frequently badly specified, most important is ensuring that the bolted connections are of sufficient size, strength and lateral support to insure that the act in the correct manner.

Canopies and overhang projections are elements in some buildings that are frequently under specified lateral restraint and joint integrity are essential to fully validate the integrity of the chosen design.
